A topic from Love, Sex & Relationships: Relationships

My bf has 2 jobs (he works in Starbucks and also at a theatre) plus he goes to college two days a week (where he's doing an 'entertainment management' course). Neither job pays very well, which means he often has just enough money to scrape by.

He will be 27 in January.

It seems every few months he hits a rut and starts to get depressed because, as he puts it he doesn't know what he wants to do.

Ideally he'd love to be an actor, but he knows the work wouldn't be guaranteed every week and he's had no 'professional' training (saying that he is in an amateur group, and always gets main parts).

Anyway, this morning is one of 'those' days where he's called me up saying he doesn't want to go to college and feels like he's wasting his life away not doing what he wants to do, even though he doesn't know what it is he does want to do.

I was just wondering, has anyone else been in this position, and if so, how did you manage to perk your partner up?

Usually I go with the whole meal/movie/snuggle or just sit and chat it through, but it seems that's only a temporary fix. I am worried as these 'off days' of his seem to be coming back more and more often.

The only good thing is that he says our relationship is fine, which it is... it's just he feels he's wasting his life away work-wise.
