I've been asked out on a date with a guy I know who's really nice, easy to talk to, etc. but I'm not sure whether I'm attracted to him in that way, but am not absolutely sure. I don't mind going for a meal but I don't want to get his hopes up or to lead him on. I don't want to just say no and for me to appear unfriendly and for him to feel that I've rejected him and then feel embarrassed or uncomfortable when we see each other in the future, and I don't want to just to say yes and for him to expect or hope for too much.

At the moment I'm leaning towards saying that I'll go for a meal with him as friends as this seems to be the middle way.

I like to be honest and straight forward with people, so does this sound like an acceptable way to respond? If someone said this to me I'd be perfectly OK with it, but I've said this to people in the past that I didn't really know and then never seen them again so it didn't really matter. As I already know this guy and we see each other quite regularly I'm trying to be a lot more careful! Sometimes I can be a bit blunt or sarcastic which occasionally seems to offend some people that don't know me very well ... can't think why! lol

Any constructive suggestions welcome ... flippant or crass ones may well be ignored!!!
