Teenager dies after 'homophobic' attack in Liverpool

An 18-year-old who suffered serious injuries last month in an attack described by police as homophobic has died.

Michael Causer, from the Whiston area of Liverpool, was set upon by three men on 25th July.

Despite emergency surgery at the Walton Neurology Centre to try to reduce swelling on his brain, he died on Saturday.

More than 1,500 people have joined a facebook group paying tribute to the popular teenager.

Two men, Gavin Alker aged 19 and James O'Connor, 18, both from the Huyton area, where the attack took place, have been charged with grievous bodily harm.

A third man from the area, aged 19, has been charged with witness intimidation.

Merseyside police said last week that the attack was being treated as a homophobic hate crime.

A post mortem will be carried out to confirm the cause of Mr Causer's death and additional charges may be brought.

Merseyside Police have asked anyone with any information to contact them on 0151 777 6564 or speak to an officer from the Police Gay Support Network contact them on 077646 21430.

Alternatively people can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

... My thoughts and prayers are with those who knew and loved Michael at this difficult time. I hope that the Courts pass down a very strong sentence to those behind this.
