Pizza Hut runs out of pizza if you're gay or transexual, group claims

A group of gay men out with their transsexual friends were told that Pizza Hut had run out of Pizza, in order to avoid serving them it has been claimed.

The group, some of them wearing high heels asked for a table in a branch of the chain in Church Street, Blackpool.

Michael Kemp, 48, who was wearing a miniskirt claimed: "When we arrived at the Pizza Hut, we noticed people were staring at us and laughing.

"A male member of staff approached us with a big smirk on his face and, when we asked for a table, he told us that the restaurant had run out of pizzas and told us to try somewhere else.

He added in an interview with the Daily Mail: "We couldn't believe it. Who's ever heard of a Pizza Hut running out of pizzas? It was clear they were embarrassed by us, especially because some of us were wearing women's clothing, and didn't want us in the restaurant."

Mr Kemp, Paul Barnabas, 47, and his partner Iain Buck, 38, are claiming up to £3,000 compensation as they claim they were discriminated because of their sexual orientation. This has been illegal in the provision of goods and services since last year.

The claim is funded by the Equality and Human Rights Commission. Pizza Hut deny discrimination and said the restaurant had been going through poor management and had run out of food on a number of occasions.

... I hope they get some compensation, or a very big and public apology at least.

I think the headline's a little disingenuous. This is something that happended in a particular restaurant. It's not like it's Pizza Hut company policy to discriminate against gay people.

I took the heading from 'Pink News' title, sadly the title bar on OUT would not let me put it all in, so hence why I put the full title as the first line.
