I'm told i have mad scientist hair and I like dancing, climbing mountains, going to gigs and sitting in bars talking to my friends. I think physics is cool but apart from that i'm not that weird. I've recently moved to Vauxhall and am enjoying the London lifestyle

Worrying news this week - Divas, Guildford's only (and one of Surrey's very few) gay, or to be precise "gay-friendly", bars is under threat of closure.

Divas has been around for about a year now, is very well run by the lovely Cathy and Maz, and has established itself as a popular and inclusive local, popular with gay men, lesbians and straight people. It has become something of a centre for the local gay community, something which is otherwise sadly lacking in Surrey.

Now though, and in spite of its success, Punch Taverns, the freeholders, have refused to give Cathy and Maz a lease, and put the pub up for sale. If it gets sold off, it will probably get turned into a shop or flats, and yet again Guildford will become a gay desert.

This would be an enormous shame, both for Cathy and Maz, and also for the Guildford gay community, and something which is happening more and more to gay bars in smaller towns all round the country.

There is, however, already a large and growing local campaign to save Divas, part of which is an Online petition. Help us out by going to :
