I was just talking to my mate, who got all distracted because his daughter ran into the house reporting that his younger daughter had eaten a snail. No shell found, but definitely had a very slimy mouth which confirmed this allegation (eurgh).

I vaguely recall picking 'used' chewing gum from the road as a kid, even remember being quite thrilled if it still had a minty taste to it, but that's about all I ate from the 'disgusting' pile back then. Quite memorably, I did swallow a whistle though and my mum was advised to check my stools for an extended period afterwards, to ensure it had 'passed'. She'd let me poo and then prod and 'slice' with a knitting needle (sorry if you're eating breakfast here).
