On Friday I was buying some Beechams Flu Plus to drink as I've had a horrible cold that's been coming and going for the past 3+ weeks. The cold had developed into a horrendous sore throat by Friday and I've had that for the past 5 days now. I was also buying honey to put in the Beechams (to make it drinkable) and the shopkeeper suggested that I buy manuka honey (instead of "ordinary" honey). So I bought a tub of what they had in the shop. But after I came home I decided to do some research on the internet and I discovered that what I'd bought wasn't likely to be of much help as it only had a UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) of 5+ and what I was reading online suggested that only honeys with a UMF of 10+ had any marked antibacterial properties. |
