I have just had a letter from HM Revenue and Customs, with re-calculations of my income tax for 2003/4, 2004/5 and 2005/6. They say I have overpaid every year, and they have carried the overpayments forward to the following year each time, so as of the end of 2005/6 my total overpayment is around £4000! The 2005/6 calculation says this overpayment will be applied to my 2006/7 tax, although there was no calculation for 2006/7 included. And the accompanying notes say something different: a cheque for any overpayment will either be attached to the calculation (which it isn't), or will be issued shortly. |
