So how do you feel about the shocking revelation that Blue Peter named their new cat Socks instead of Cookie, which was the choice voted for the viewers?

At first i though this was all rather trivial and laughable, and not really worth making a fuss over

But then i saw a clip of when the winning name was announced.....a huge thing was made of the Viewer's Vote....with a countdown, and a big fanfare when the choice was announced....and it was all a complete lie, and it did make me feel uneasy

And it kind of makes you think that if a culture is in place which is prepared to lie quite so easily, and so boldly, and over something which is so trivial and where no lie is remotely necesarry, how can it be relied to tell the truth about important things?

And what the hell is wrong with the name Cookie anyway?

I reckon that it meant nothing at all to the cat but a lot to thousands of children who had voted. I read that the BBC were fined £50,000 over this. Quite right too!

That's the way the Cookie crumbles.
