I love ties and have collected many as gifts as well as having bought loads, I even inherited many of my Father's when he died many years ago, some of which I still wear occasionally. I could never throw any out or putthem into a jumbe sale or charity shop as they are all like old friends to me and have memories attached, either because of who gave it to me or because of occasions I may have work the tie.
