Now before we start putting in hilarious quips about surely it's not a crime to bury the dead or whatever, that isn't the undertaking I am referring to.

I am talking about undertaking on a motorway/dual carriageway.

I realise it is against the law...Unlike mid-lane & fast lane drivers who didn't know those lanes are for overtaking, not just cruising at 65mph in, all the way to their destination.

Scenario :- You are in a hurry, let's add a little drama, your Partner/Mother/Father/Child/ Budgie, has been involved in a life threatening accident, and the only way you are going to make it to the Hospital in time to hear their last dying words, is on a motorway/dual carriageway.
Now obviously, you wouldn't speed, because that would be against the law ....So you daintly saunter, (if you can daintly saunter in a vehicle) along the motorway towards the Hospital. You are in the slow lane....which apart from the odd lorry is mile upon mile of empty road.
Unfortunately, the other two lanes are filled with people, travelling at 65mph, who have lost the ability to steer or use indicators, and like a tram, can only go in that lane. They are not overtaking anyone, just cruising along with all the time in the world.
Now here's the question, do you sit patiently behind them, hoping that at some point they might move over to turn off the motorway or do you carefully & cautiously untertake them? (Obviously tailgating & nudging them are not options...This isn't a Hollywood blockbuster!)

Undertake every time. If I got caught I'd explain the situation & hope for the best. But in this scenario I wouldn't care what the results with the law would be.

I don't think undertaking should be illegal. If one of the people in the outside lane wants to change back to the inside they should check its clear anyway.
