I voted yes, but I don't think it's to late to turn things a little bit around. Although there is also a factor of the natural process involved in it.

It is already a disaster.

Will we get wiped out?

Hopefully not ... but if we do it is our own fault.

Humankind is an unsightly rash on the face of the earth; we will not destroy the planet. However much damage we do the world will survive, evolution will start again and life will go on.

Unless we all act rapidly we probably will face climate change which will lead huge movements of population, which in turn will lead to widespread global conflict.

We won't cause longterm damage to the environment as a whole, but we will make things unimaginably difficult for future generations.

However, there are thoughtful people who are stimulating change. There is hope.

Its never too late, I really can't believe the apathy and denial that is going on with over whelming evidence on the subject of climate change.

Even if use the arguement that its cyclical we are still doing feck all to prepare for it.

The world at the time of the last shift in Climate was much much smaller then now, people were able to up and move to better places...

Alot harder to do now though!

The problem I have is that our own strategy for reducing carbon emissions is just a drop in the ocean. Unless the big players like the US and China make drastic changes (which at the moment seems highly unlikely) then what is the point?

If I thought our attempts were making a difference and influencing others then I would feel differently, but if the latest figures regarding China's rise are anything to go by then I really don't see that happening.

I think the time for little "make sure you turn your lights off" changes is well and truely over. BIG changes need to happen on a worldwide scale for us to really make any differences.

Thats a fair point, however if noone starts then noone else will change the more people, countries, large companies make changes the greater the pressure for the others to change as well...

Is that actually happening though? Is our, pretty pointless, strategy actually influencing more and more countries. Or should I say is it influencing the countries that actually matter? If the big polluters don't actually change then is there any point in us trying to influence them? Is it more of a case that we can go with a guilt-free conscience because at least we tried....even though it was pretty meaningless in the grand scheme?

Well a change in Government will help, a vast majority of US states have signed up to Koyoto and have threatened the US Government with legal action.

China is a problem yes, but economic sanctions for eg could be used as a last resort.

I for one don't want to sleepwalk to a very bleak future.
