Whitney Houston has chosen to perform at a charity event in London on the 8th May 2008.

Organisers of the Caudwell Children's Legend Ball in Battersea have revealed they've booked the diva for a charity show.

Charity founder John Caudwell tells Britain's Marie Claire magazine:

"We are thrilled to have an artist of Whitney's calibre to headline the event."

Whitney isn't the first artist to emerge of the woodwork for Caudwell...as Tina Turner came out of retirement to perform at the charity's 2007 gala, which helped Caudwell raise over $2 million (£1 million) for disabled children. Good ole Tina! :)

Houston is currently recording a new album with her mentor, music mogul Clive Davis, who claims the comeback project will be released this year in November.

Now I know this won't ring any positive bells with most people..but I actually think this performance will be good for both parties. Whitney will get to show her brand new self..and the charity will make a lot of money out of it. Hopefully beating last year's number!

For Whitney fans reading this..I'm sorry but tickets are far from cheap...at £10,000 for a table of 10!

Thanks, I'll give it a miss.

She used to be brilliant, then Bobby Brown came along.

Well..she's washed that man well and truly out of her hair...along with the white powder around her nose! She's reformed :)

I hope so. I really do (for her sake, mainly).

It'd be nice to see her back to her former self.

And she's done it!!

Apparently Whitney Houston stole the show with her return to live performance.

A host of celebrity guests, including Elton John's partner David Furnish, turned out for the Caudwell Children Legends Ball in Battersea Park.

David said:

"I have seen Whitney sing live in New York about 10 years ago or 11 years ago at Sting and Trudie's Rainforest Party and she was fantastic.

"She hasn't been doing much live performing since then so I think this is a real coup to get her out and performing live again."

And David doesn't believe the singer needs to prove anything to relaunch her career.

He said:

"I think relaunch is the wrong word, I think when you have someone like Whitney who is spectacularly talented, I think they can take as much time off as they want and if they get the right songs they can come back and sell lots of records."

A host of celebrities attended the ball including the Sugababes, the Cheeky Girls and Boyzone.

Her new album is scheduled for a Christmas release!
