Not content with starring in the rehash failure that was the Wicker Man...Nicolas Cage will now star in a remake of the 1992 cult classic The Bad Lieutenant for Nu Image/Millenium Films. That's right folks..they're remaking a film that's only 16 years old! :/

The original Abel Ferrara-directed movie followed a depraved, gambling and drug-addicted NYPD cop (played by Harvey Keitel) who regularly abused his power. His investigation of the rape of a nun forces him to confront his inner demons.

It remains one of the first and most notable film's to have garnered an NC-17 rating - which basically prohibited anyone in the U.S. under the age of 17 to see it. The new version will be set in a modern post-9/11 environment and its said the hardcore sex and drug elements will still feature.

Werner Herzog (director behind Rescue Dawn and Grizzly Man) will helm the new version from a script penned by Billy Finkelstein (Murder One, NYPD Blue, Law and Order).

Production on this project will start later this summer...and I'm sure you're all excited about this new venture. Or a rehashed venture..in this case :)
