Yes...it's official...the cult TV series is set for a return to our TV screens!

But with a difference...

Most will cringe at the thought of the mere mention of the word 'remake'...but after years petitioning, and following on from the success of the Doctor Who and Battlestar Galactica revivals...the project has now been given the green light.

The new series will air on Sky One, after the satellite broadcaster asked the rights owners to develop a rehash of the series.

Fanatics of the original series will know that Blake's 7 launched after the huge success of Star Wars, which challenged viewer expectations with its cynical characters who were eventually massacred in a shoot-out. Blake, a political dissident, formed a gang of reluctant rebels which included a smuggler and a thief.

Blake 7 Productions will now have a bigger special effects budget..and they've mapped out a 6-part series that revives Blake, his self-serving lieutenant Avon, and Servalan...the ruthless Supreme Commander, along with other fondly remembered characters. The new series will go right back to how it all began...in particularly focussing on how the rebel group formed.

Elaine Pyke, Sky One commissioning editor, said:

"At a time when sciencce fiction shows often discard good storytelling for over-blown visual effects and following the lead of Doctor Who and Battlestar Galactica, the time is ripe for a revival of a show that represents the best traditions of the genre"

To be honest...I'm not a true Blake's 7 fan, so can't really comment on this proposed revival. What do you think of this idea to recreate a cult TV series?
