I`m a normalish bloke who likes conversation and building good friendships.... you can never have enough good friends in life. I'm into novels, films, creative writing, the theatre, dogs, and am (confession here) a video game junkie...

We recently got a hi-def DVD player - and although the picture quality is lovely and shiny, I really cannot comprehend why the films are so expensive.

For example: The Matrix Trilogy. On DVD you can get them for about a tenner for a box set containing all three. Get them in Hi-Def and suddenly they cost nearly £70. Most cost around £25 - but why should a film cost ten quid more just because you can see the actors pimples more clearly? Do they really offer any more value?

And more importantly, how do the manufacturers expect Hi-Def DVD and Blu-Ray to catch on as a mass market thing (given so many people have flat screen HD tv's these days) when the cost of the films is so prohibitive?

Moan over!
