According to yesterday's Guardian, "Paramount could become the latest movie studio to withdraw its support for Toshiba's HD-DVD format, dealing a mortal blow to its hopes of becoming the next generation of home video."

"Reports that Paramount is preparing to announce its full support for the rival Blu-ray disc, which is backed by Sony, could prove the final straw for the beleaguered Toshiba in its attempt to control the lucrative high definition film market. A spokeswoman for Paramount said that the company's "current plan" involved HD-DVD, but the studio could be ready to jump to Sony's Blu-ray format, according to reports."

So, nothing definite, but there's rarely any smoke without fire, and I thought, as I said on other recent threads on the whole HD-DVD vs Blu-ray thing, that once Warner Bros. had made their decision, it would only be a matter of time before Paramount and Universal jumped ship, and my guess is that Paramount will now do so sooner rather than later, and that Universal won't be far behind at all. The only good to come out of this, I guess, is that at least there will soon be just one HD format out there rather than two competing, but incompatible, ones.
