This is not a cheap way to get publicity...but if you fancy checking out my website, visit www.justgiving.com/willthornton

Anyway, I am raising money for the charity i work for by cycling in the Peruvian Andes later in the year. I have to raise £2,800 but am way behind at the minute.

I need ways to raise money...any (clean) tips?

Will

Years ago I ran the NY marathon and discovered that if you ask for sponsorship nobody will give you less than you ask for! In those days (1984) I asked for a minimum of 10p a mile and nobody gave me less. (quite a few gave me 20p/mile some 50p, some £1 and the best were £4/mile) So double the amount you ask for and you'll probably double your total.

Think about who starts each sponsorship sheet - make it someone you know will be quite generous because that will set a standard. If you get a meanie who gives 1p a mile, then the next person will feel very generous at 5p/mile. If the first person on the sheet gives 50p/mile, someone who was thinking of giving 5p will now feel rather mean and will be shamed into giving at least 20p/mile.

So be tactical about asking and you'll do much better!

What's the charity by the way?

Thanks David.

Like the idea of putting generous givers on the top of the sheet.

I seem to have exhausted all of my friends and am now looking for other ways to get lots of money. I still have £1,600 to go - only raised £1,200 at the moment.

I'm doing it to raise money for Birmingham Focus on Blindness - www.birminghamfocus.org.uk

OK so it's for Birmingham Focus on Blindness

I have just made a donation through the Charities Aid Foundation since I can't use my CAF account on justgiving.com. The donation has been marked for adding to your sponsorship. Good luck and best wishes.

Thanks, that very generous.

I'll bore everyone on here when I get back with pics and tales of sleeping in the Andes with snakes and the like...

thanks again.
