I'm polite, friendly and fully housetrained. My interests include gym, music, guerning, inter-stellar space travel and doing the washing up.

I have promised my mum a laptop for her birthday in November.

She is getting increasingly fed up with everyone around her, especially people her own age, being internet users while she is clueless about it all. She is feeling left behind excluded.

So, I've decided to get her onto t'internet and show her what she's missing. She won't need to be an expert - when I've shown her the basics and she gets the hang of it, I know she will really enjoy having a good old surf. And then of course she will learn as she goes along, like everyone else does.

I just wondered if anyone might please be able to give me a couple of ideas - I don't want to buy a laptop that's too cheap, I want her to have something decent, but at the same time it doesn't have to be all-singing all-dancing, because she doesn't need that.

Are there any models that anyone would particularly recommend?

Have you considered a tablet?
It saves a lot of faffing around for the user if they mainly use it for surfing.
