Maybe I'm just not cut out for it and should re-train as a plumber, but I've decided that I hate web programming with a passion. I actually discovered this quite a few years ago, but hey.

So anyway, I've been banged up in my little hole for what seems like weeks now, furiously coding away to the light of a candle, and *NOTHING EVER WORKS FIRST TIME*.

It's starting to annoy me.

I'm flicking back and forth between Perl, JavaScript, CSS and heaven knows what else and they each have different rules on stupid little things like how you specify a variable, or whether you need a semi-colon and where, how you do loops, where you put squiggly brackets and whether you use those or square ones. And it's doing my head in.

Is it just me, or is it a genuine fact of computer programming that nothing ever works first time? Or am I just stupid?

Oh I forgot to mention SQL Server stored procedures too.

And how mind numbing can you get:

User types stuff into a form.
You have to check all the stuff to make sure it's not malicious nasty input.
You have to put it all into variables.
You have to tell the database about the variables it's going to receive.
You have to send it all to the database.
You have to read it all into yet more variables over there.
You have to store it in a load of different columns, invariably and tediously named all the same thing as all the variables.

Four billion times.

Only to then have to read it all out again later and either display it or shove it into forms that are then going to get edited and go through the same loop.

Good grief. Why aren't computers intelligent enough now that I can just speak it all and it just does it.

Sorry, I'll stop ranting and get on with my web coding. Night night.
