I'd like to replace my PC and have thought about building one. I'm not a computer techie, but am competent. What's prompted this is that on looking inside a PC, there isn't much to them.

Ideally I'd like to build a fast machine, but set it up initially with the open source stuff such as Linux and the like. I don't do games with mine, but do a lot of net stuff and burn CD's MP3's etc, and want it to be future proofed in case I decide to put Vista and other stuff on at a later date. I don't intend to gt rid of my current machine at the moment.

Any thoughts about how difficult it is to build one? Also, any idea which shop is best for all the parts (and would they tell me which bit worked with which other bit)?

It's not that difficult to buy a PC, but prices are so competitive these days that you might just as well spec one up at Dell's web site or somesuch and let them deal with the hassle.

As for shops - depends what area you live in.
