Oh good. More good news.

THE Mediterranean could start generating its own hurricanes if sea temperatures keep rising, a study has warned.

At present hurricanes, originating far out in the Atlantic, blow westwards towards the Caribbean and America's Gulf coast, and leave Europe's coastline unscathed.

Now scientists warn that climate change means that the Mediterranean is warming up so much it stores enough heat to trigger the formation of its own hurricanes. They say this will have important implications for the safety of resorts, residents and holidaymakers.

'We have detected for the first time a risk of tropical cyclone [hurricane] development over the Mediterranean based on anthropogenic [man-made] climate change,' said Miguel Gaertner, lead researcher at the environ-mental sciences faculty of the University of Castilla-La Mancha in Toledo, Spain.

Such a change would have serious implications for tourism, raising the prospect that hotels, campsites and resorts would need to develop hurricane shelters, evacuation plans and other protective measures similar to those on America's Gulf coast.

It is quite a scary thought if certain conditions are correct for example a high pressure in the Atlantic, the Hurricane or Tropical Storm could be deflected towards the UK, now that would be scary, it is bad enough having flooding due to our tiny thunderstorms (in comparison to other places).

Ironically, a hurricane over the UK would bring would remove all pollutants that are in the air; it would be like putting all our atmosphere in a washing machine and putting it on spin cycle; however our buildings may not be able to withstand such forces; as Hurricanes bring rain, lightning and even tornadoes; and when you think its all over, it starts all over again.

Acting like you're the only one who's concerned or doing anything about it is really naff.

And it takes away from your otherwise informative and prescient posts on this topic.

I said 'we are all', I didnt say its just me that feels concern. It does do my head in so ill say it. I know it does lots of other peoples heads in too. But absolutely enough people do not feel serious concern. I have conversations with people everyday who dont have a clue about whats going on and people who think there is nothing serious going on. But thanks for your compliment, am sure theres one in there somewhere.
