#131695Sun 31/08/08 18:57		Unfortunately I wasn't able to watch the whole of this prom when it was broadcast tonight. However, I saw the Mozart and the Rachmaninov and that was quite enough for me. All the gurning, swaying, near-winking, open-mouthed whatever-it-was in the Mozart was bad enough. In the 1st of the Rachmaninov preludes (miles too fast) there was no sense of style (for me) and in the 2nd, there were odd bumps and thumps apparently to show what an individual he is. Unfortunately I wasn't able to watch the whole of this prom when it was broadcast tonight. Perhaps I wasn't so unfortunate after all. I can't see me looking for it on the I-Player. I'm sure others felt differently. Or not ?
deleted:gromitSun 31/08/08 19:01		Hmm I like him, he is an awesome talent.. the fact is that music is meant to be interpreted differently. Dynamics can be altered and emphasis placed differently. If music were too uniform there would be no point in going to listen to different performers!

meleg85Sun 31/08/08 19:28		I am watching it on BBC4 now. I think it's fair to say I'm not really paying enough attention to make a fair comment. He is technically very impressive, but he would hardly be doing this solo prom if he wasn't. I must say I am not totally involved with what he's doing.
