The Culture Minister has attacked the Proms for being divisive.

''She praised "icons of a common culture" from Coronation Street to the Angel of the North and said culture could "enhance a sense of shared identity".

But the Proms was one of several major cultural events many people did not feel comfortable attending, she said. ''

Hmmm sounds like another example of this governments philistinism to me: she doesnt know the difference between the last night and all the other Proms.

I would not want to go to the last night as I find it too close to chauvinism or nationalism, but the rest of the Proms are a great festival of music and a rare opportunity for lots of people to see classical music in person or on TV.

The last government to give any real support to quality music was Edward Heath!
