The gorgeous James Kristian, star of hit channel 4 drama AS IF, will star in the premiere of my new play Counterfeit Skin at the Courtyard Theatre in Hoxton, London, 22nd January to 10th February 2008.

Written by Jason Charles (STEAM)
Directed by Kirrie Wratten
Designed by Aaron Marsden (Aaron was a designer on the movie Moulin Rogue!)

Counterfeit Skin is a darkly comic psychological thriller that questions our understanding of the meaning of love. It explores what men are prepared to risk to get what they want out of love and life. It is about temptation and deception, sex and betrayal.
A play for anyone who has ever let the desires of the flesh override the needs of the heart.

Mach is the new receptionist at Hawley's Confectionery Ltd. Whilst antagonising callers with his idiosyncratic telephone manner, and occasionally performing 80's dance routines on the desk, he spends his time searching internet chat rooms for clients for him and his reluctant colleague, Pip, to visit after work. This is until he realises the effect he has on company director Leo Hawley. Meanwhile, Leo's godson, Jake, who he lives with, whittles his afternoons away drinking Lapsang Souchong and eating the company's cake samples with well-to-do neighbour, Ralph, who has been paid by his parents to never contact them again. Jake's single topic of conversation is his disintegrating relationship with Luke, who lives with them. But Leo inviting his provocative young receptionist over for dinner one evening shakes Jake's cosy daily routine. Once in the house, Mach has no intention of leaving until he gets exactly what he wants..

Jake has been in a relationship with Luke for three years, and has reached a point where he wants his freedom back, and resents being tied down. He also resents his Godfather Leo whom he blames for his father going missing shortly after he was born.

Jake allows himself to be seduced by the provocative Mach soon after he moves into the house. The consequences of this betrayal are pretty dire. When Mach realises that Jake is just using him like everyone else he decides to wrack revenge.
