Starting this Friday, along with a few friends, I'll be taking part in the "Gifts for Heather" bus trip raising money on behalf of Oxfam.

We'll be aiming to get from Land's End to John O'Groats and back again using nothing but local bus routes. Our route is not exactly the most direct, but it will include many interesting parts of the country.

As well as raising money for Oxfam, we also aim to raise awareness of just what it is possible to do using buses. Also (and possibly most importantly) we will be doing this in memory of my sister, Heather, who died in hospital in London two years ago following neglect by the medical staff there.

By the end of today the website for the trip will have been updated with the final version of the itinerary, and if anyone wants to come and say "Hi" along the way, you are more than welcome - those of us doing it will be wearing suitably obvious t-shirts ! Donations can also be made through the website. Finally by Friday morning there will be an interactive blog available through the website too, where you will be able to follow the trip and find out all the latest news.

The website address is www.giftsforheather.com and it will tell you a lot more about why we are doing it, and what Oxfam will be doing with the money raised. We already have nearly £3500 and we are aiming for at least £5000, so if you can make a small donation (even just a £ or two) it will make all the difference to those most in need.
