I 've realised my tyres are wearing low after only 17000 miles on my Audi A4 Avant. I don't screech around in it at all.

Does anyone by any chance have a view about the best value replacements to go for? The price range is huge. Is it worth paying extra for Michelin, or are the mid range brands just as good?

Thanks in eager anticipation of any guidance boys.

Just dont go for budget tyres. 17000 miles is not unusual for the front wheel tyres on a front wheel drive car with power stearing.

If its all tyres, or the rear ones I would think that something is not all correct, unless you have very soft compound on your tyres, or its a 4 wheel drive.

And I would recommend always changing the tyres in pairs.

Usually when I replace my tyres I go for the middle of the range ones.

My car came with Pirellies, which were great - got almost 30k out of them I think....

I've since had Bridgestones, which were also pretty good, and I can't remember what brand the front tyres are now.... (I replaced them not that long ago).

But I think you do get what you pay for - up to a degree. Hence going for known brands.

Do you swap the tyres front to back at all? I do that, and usually get a bit more even wear out of them (as front wheel drive cars will wear the front tyres down quicker...)

hate to disagree about the budget tyres, but I use a local place where cars of all sorts are shod with non-branded (therefore not stupidly expensive) tyres. I blast my car all over the place and the tyres last 15-18k miles and I pay £280- £300 for all four. Given that I spent £350 on two Michelins for the rear (driving) wheels and they last less than 10K. Not impressed.

Present ones are Bridgestones that have been on from new.

quoting > "Do you swap the tyres front to back at all?"

No, i know I should do, but never get round to it.

quoting > "17000 miles is not unusual for the front wheel tyres on a front wheel drive car with power stearing."

No, I suppose it isn't really. It's only the front ones.

Is it all right to have different makes/styles on the front and rear? I know you shouldn't mix them on the axles. And if the front ones are about to wear out, how much longer might the rear ones last? In other words, would it be sensible just to do the whole lot on one go?

Thanks lads
