We signed up to TalkTalk a year ago tempted by their cheap combined phone and broadband package.

But the reliability is APPALLING and technical support are really, really poor. At least six times in this year we've lost connection and it's taken a couple of days to get it sorted out.

But yesterday was the last straw. I followed some instructions from the tech support guy (probably in South Africa) and he told me to make some changes to the router settings. But the upshot was that that didn't work so he then said that they don't support Linksys routers. In which case why make me change settings in the first place?

I keep getting different stories from different people and just got so frustrated, but in the end got it working in a way so that even the final tech support guy didn't understand what had happened. Normally I'm a really placid kind of guy but I was getting very assertive on the phone with them and really laying into them (but without being rude or offensive to the person at the end of the phone).

They have promised to deduct £5 from the next 3 months bills and give me a new free router that their tech guys can support, but we are intending to cancel when the contract expires in July. After all, why would anyone WANT to be with a company that offers such a poor level of support and reliability?

So, what are the options for another provider? We'd prefer a combined phone/broadband package but would consider separate companies and don't mind paying a bit more for reliability and customer service. Any ideas?

Thanks

I binned Talk Talk as soon as the clock struck 12 and went to BT oprtion3, it's ok nothing special and works prety well, I have a few friends that are on Virgin and seem to get really good connection speeds etc but when they do have tech probs it can be quite frustrating as invariably they are speaking to a call centre in India and whilst the operators try to help so much is lost in translation.

I'm with them and every night at 12midnight I loose connection. The other week I lost connection 6 times in a day. I'm thinking of going over to Virgin as mine expires in 2 months.
