Hi, guys (m and f), anyone got a view on how long it usually takes a pulled muscle to sort itself out?

I have had a pain in my back which I still think is a pulled muscle, but it has been a week now that I have had it. It is not as bad as it was but it has not gone away.

Any views?

Depends on which muscle it is, how badly you have pulled it, if you are resting it etc...

It is in my back, so I ahve been careful, did no gym for 5 days and only did arms carefully yesterday..

It is hard to rest it though, as almost any movement involves some control of the upper body...

Get someone to rub deep heat into it?

Probably take a week, but I'd be careful not to strain for a bit longer than that...

Just a suggestion, from personal experience -

I had severe muscle pain in my upper back. I couldn't work it why, and nothing that I did improved it. Then I happened to feel my neck one day, and discovered that a muscle on the opposite side of my neck from where the back pain was, had turned into a thick trunk of knotted muscle.

I massaged it for about 15 minutes, and the pain subsided. I then massaged it regularly throughout the day to stop it seizing up again. By the next day, the pain in my back had gone.
