Having feeling overtired for a wee while I visited my doctor who decided to send me to the sleep clinic at Aberdeen, here is a report on how it went.
I traveled from Shetland to Aberdeen on Monday morning (leaving the house at 6am and getting into Aberdeen at 9.45 am), app wasn't till 1pm where I was given some equipment and shown how to use it then told "Return the equipment by 9am for the reading of the results" and sent on my way to the GH.v When I get there I find it is nowhere near bus services and would cost £9.80p (Each way) to the city centre! Eeeeeeek! So I stayed in and ordered chinese.
Taxi to the hosp was £8.20 from the GH, got to hosp at 9.30 to be told "Oh 10.30 would have been fine" *Here I will leave out the expletive I was thinking but FFS was close to the mark) I wasn't sure of getting into and around the city on my own so took over a table in the cafe from 10.30am - 12.25pm, I explained to a nice lady behind the counter that I couldn't walk far so needed a hidy hole till 12.30ish, she said order a pot of tea and refill as you need, that way you can say you are spending. So three pots of tea (she only charged for two) later and I vacated the table for the lunch crowd.
At 2pm I headed for my appointment to be met by the Sister in charge and an orderly, It seems I stopped breathing no less than 16 times over a 7 hour period and they urgently needed to do another couple of tests whilst the specialist was overseeing the procedures.
The outcome is that after a lot of tuition I came away with a CPAP machine which the Sister said would normally take 2-3 months to get but I needed one urgently and will need to use everytime i sleep (including napping) for the rest of my life (so some poor sod got moved back down the list) told I have to report the new condition to the DVLA and toldnot to drive until the DVLA and the Specialist agrees it is safe for me to do so (which could be months or never) and a letter to take to my GP ASAP, an appointment for Nov 5th then sent home, got home at 9.30pm. Next morning I got a call from the health centre telling me to come along straight away (seems the hosp called them to ensure I get seen without delay) where my details were updated, I was given nasal sprays and the flu jab and told I would get automatic notifications of any further preventative measures needed as soon as they appear.
Now I am stuck at home in the middle of nowhere with no transport for the minimum of one month and I could be like this long term and could cost me my job.
P,d off ?
