Jean MacColl, Kirsty MacColl's mother, has written a book about her daughter's life and the ongoing fight to bring about justice for her untimely death.

The book, entitled 'Sun on the Water' (the title of the last song Kirsty ever wrote), includes anecdotes from her contemporaries including Jools Holland and Billy Bragg.

Released today, it can be ordered in most bookshops.

Amazon.co.uk has a nice synopsis - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sun-Water-Jean-MacColl/dp/1844545490/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1207162438&sr=8-3:

Kirsty MacColl led a dazzling life - tender, creative, heroic and full of love. This book, by her mother Jean MacColl, charts with moving insight Kirsty's early years, celebrates her brilliant career at the front rank of the music business in the 1980s and '90s, and mourns her tragic and untimely death - killed by a speedboat in Mexican waters in December 2000. It also tells, with heartfelt truth, the shocking story of the elaborate cover-up and gross miscarriage of justice that followed, and appeals for justice to be done in her name.

If you're interested in attending, the official book launch will take place at Kettners Restaurant, Soho, 6 - 8pm on Monday 21st April. Please notify the organisers at the above link if you decide to come.

And to those who haven't heard Kirsty's works, I recommend buying her posthumously released "The Best of Kirsty MacColl." She varied between many styles and is perhaps best known for her very touchingly clever and witty lyrics. Truly unique.

I just read an extract from the book and am trying desperately to hold back tears as I'm in the office!

Yes, I know it's the Daily Mail, but have a read. It will go to explain why I'm such an ardent supporter of Justice for Kirsty.
