Just your average geordie bloke in London, who works way too hard but tries to find time for good mates, beery nights out, indie and electro clubs/bands, good food, and cuddles under the duvet on a sunday morning. Applications welcome :-)

WOW!!!
This is the BEST exhibition I've seen in ages. I'm not very familiar with his work, except for the Angel of the North, but by god this guy's good.
Nobody could have escaped the hype surrounding this exhibition. The media has gone nuts about it, and it deserves every accolade.
The best exhibit is one you can see without even going into the gallery. 'Event Horizon' is 31 bronze statues of the artist positioned on the tops of buildings all over central London. But the only place you can see all 31 is from the balcony of the Hayward. This is one of the most ambitious and stunning artworks I've ever seen. You just look at all the bronze figures, and think "How much work did that take?"
But the highlight is 'Blind Light', otherwise known as 'The Fog in a Box'. This is a giant glass box, full of water vapour to create a 'fog', into which the punters walk. Once inside, you can't see more than 2 foot in front of you. If you hold your arm out straight you can't see your hand. You can hear other people, but you cannot see them until they bump into you. The whole thing is really brightly lit so it seems you're in a huge white infinite space. It's an amazing experience, but quite disorientating. Worth the £8 entry on it's own.
Apart from that there is a fantastic scupture of AG with hundreds of spikes protruding out of him, a room where there are sculptures of the artist spreadeagled in every corner. And loads of other cool stuff that you just can't describe.
I came out of it feeling quite funny. I get goose pimples all over when I see exhibitions this good. Definitely recommended. But get there early. I went at about 11 on saturday morning and the queue was quite short. By the time I left, at about 1.30, the queues for the exhibition and all the main exhibits inside (like the fog in a box, which only allow a few people in at a time) were massive. |
