Hey guys,

A friend of mine asked me to take a look at his iMac as it continuously stalled at start up, I tried everything from resetting the SMU to replacing the RAM and nothing worked.

I just opened it up and noticed the capacitors are bloated and leaking what looks like acid.

I did a search on google and it seems the problem wasn't isolated and that apple had used a bad batch of capacitors in the early iMac G5s.

My question is, where does he stand?

Because the issue seems quite wide spread in these early G5's, I feel Apple should replace the logic board to one of a better quality, regardless of the fact it's now out of warranty. But what I want and what Apple will do are usually different :o)

Any advice?

If it's got capacitor plague, apple should replace the board if it was bought in the last 3 years - quickfind:tom_ripley had exactly the same thing and they repaired it free. There's a notice about it on the apple site somewhere
