Who remembers the BBC and ITV schools presentation devices? My era was the dots which counted down the final minute but in the 70s a fantastic diamond sequence was broadcast to fill the BBC Schools and Colleges gaps until the dots replaced the diamond in 1978 with the 20 dots disappearing every 2.7 seconds. A pie chart had been used in the 60s. BBC Schools pres was never the same when they transferred to BBc2 in autumn 1983 as no timepeace was used although ITV retained its countdown clocks for another 11 years, even after ITV Schools transferred to Channel 4 in autumn 1987. It was only in 1993, when Channel 4 became independent of ITV, that countdown clocks disappeared from our screens altogether.

I remember the countdown dots and the 'diamond' (which was created, incidentally, the same way as the original Dr Who titles - pointing a camera at its own monitor).

What was the music that was played though?

What was the music that was played though?

The music was different for each link and varied from an Abba medley and a Grease medley to classical music and instrumental music. The BBC had a series of tapes that it used for the schools links.

CORRECTION:
